Environmental Honesty Policy
Here at Karlsson we take our environmental policy seriously & practically.
We believe the first port of call in being environmentally aware, is being against “throw-awayism”. By this, we mean, that we want to supply you with beautiful, useful & simple items that will have a long life and best of all, something that has an intrinsic value, that you will be keen to pass down the generations. We would much rather have a range of goods that are made to last, than be made of a material that is “apparently OK” to put into landfill, or requires energy to be re-cycled.
Being green is something that we have to be very practical about, We need to ensure that the goods arrive with you in the best possible state, and as a result, we unfortunately have to use a certain amount of packaging to protect your items whilst they are in transit, this is our first step in re-cycling. We utilize all the packaging that our suppliers send to us, and re-use this to send to you. So you may find a strange array of packaging materials and types in your parcel, this is to ensure that we recycle as much of the necessary evil that is packaging. We try to re-use boxes where possible and ensure that our cardboard boxes are free from print, to allow them to be broken down or composted more easily. So please feel free to compost or re-use as much of our packaging as possible.
At our offices we encourage a paperless system, relying heavily on electronic communication and supplier trading. But the paper we do have, when finished with is shredded and placed in our own compost heap – then sprinkled lovingly on Mrs Karlssons garden.
If we can re-use as much of our everyday trading material that we get through in this throwaway society, so much the better for us and our families in the years to come.
We question all of our travel, Do we need to go? Are we utilizing our fuel usage and transport as effectively as possible ?
We employ and have employed a number of students who study very influential subject matters that can affect our children’s future. We support and educate them in our ethical model in the hope that they will take this forward into their future.
Last of all we encourage our friends, suppliers, neighbours and family to strive for a similar ethos. We hope that after reading this you agree and will be proactive in this approach.
